I purchased a renter's license, downloaded and installed the latest version of APP. On first run APP asked for my license key. After that the program did not load as usual. there is an APP process running, but the program no longer loads. I've uninstall and reinstalled, even tried the previous version and nothing. Please advise....

Checked the event log and it shows an error "program compatibility" not sure if that helps...

Hi dariv @dariv,

Thank you for sharing the issue. I will do my best to get this solved as quickly as possible 😉

Can you asnwer the following questions? It should help me in determining what the issue is.

Would you know which APP version you were running before you upgraded to the Renter license?

On which Windows version are you?

Did you install APP in the default location on the file system, or did you specify an alternative?

Have you tried a much older version, to see if that does work ?

Do you have a Java Runtime installed on the system?

KInd regards,

Mabula

Thank you @dariv for all information,

Have you checked if security software on your computer is blocking APP from starting normally?

Another user could not start APP on Windows, because AV/Security was blocking the application:

@dariv, to be sure, can you post a screenshot or the exact message that you see in the event log?

Okay, to be sure, can you try if things are different when Trend Micro is disabled ?

Another way to trouble shoot is to try to load APP from the commandline since you have a Java runtime installed:

  • Can you open a command promtp by running cmd.exe
  • navigate to the installation directory, the default on windows 10 would be: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\AstroPixelProcessor
  • execute from the commandline: java -jar "app\AstroPixelProcessor-out.jar"

Check this screenshot:

ExexuteAPPFromCommandlineWindows

Please note, APP needs to run in a 64bit Java Runtime (JRE). Yours probably is 32bits, this is no problem to test now if we can start APP.

I tested it with a 32bits JRE as well:

Start APP from commandline Windows 32bits JRE

Please let me know what happens and share the output of APP on the commandline.

Kind regards,

Mabula

Dear @dariv,

So this shows exactly the same as in my screenshots, right?

These are normal warnings from a library that APP uses. These are not errors.

To me this indicates that there is no problem with starting the application on your computer as far as APP is concerned. Therefore the problem is not in APP I think, but on the Operating System level.

When it is started, you can see the process in the task manager, right ? Somehow, the Graphical User Interface is not showing so I think we need to focus on that to solve this issue.

Have you checked the graphical drivers ? Perhaps you updated them recently?

Kind regards,

Mabula

Hi @dariv

How about your graphical drivers? Did you update these recently?

Maybe it's best that I look on your computer to solve this using teamview or perhaps other screen sharing software?

I've tried different drivers after it would not load.

We can try teamviewer, but I will not have the computer available until 4 hours from now

Hi @dariv,

Okay. Can you send me an email when you are ready to support@astropixelprocessor.com ? I will be waiting.

We can also communicate with skype perhaps? Do you have a skype account?

Hi @dariv,

Just to summarize my testing on your system:

The issue is the the OpenGl library deployment (the jogamp..... process) can't complete somehow.I suspect this is due to some security software/rule/setting which has been set on your computer.

I will investigate 2 possible solutions to solve this:

1) ask the opengl library devs if they know the issue and possible fix

2) update the library and or change the library deployment strategy

Kind regards,

Mabula

Hi @dariv,

The developers of the OpenGL library have confirmed that the issue is caused by security software on your machine.

http://forum.jogamp.org/Jogamp-fat-jar-not-deploying-on-a-Windows-7-64bits-machine-td4039604.html

A paranoid virus scanner prevents it from doing its job. Please try to disable the automated native library loading and manage the Java library path as indicated in the JOGL user's guide.

I proposed to replace this mechanism by a call to a Java API available only in Java >= 1.8 but if the virus scanner still prevents the loading of the extracted native libraries (DLL under Microsoft Windows), the only way to solve this problem will consist in disabling the virus scanner and on the long term to report this false positive to the software publisher of this virus scanner.

I will try to release the next version of APP with a different mechanism to install/load the libraries which hopefully does not trigger the security software/rule on your machine.

Do you have admin rights on your computer? Or is is a machine from you employer perhaps?

Kind regards,

Mabula

The machine in question is my company supplied work laptop, so I can't "unblock" the issue. I have a computer in my observatory that runs APP without issue.

Hi @dariv,

Okay, the developers have notified me of another version of the library that isn't using the self-extracting archive, like the older APP versions that used an older version of the library, that did work, right?

I will try to release the new version as soon as possible 😉
