Hi everyone, I'm looking for recommendations on a new machine to be used process images with APP.

What's  'ideal' and what is 'good' in terms of

- processor,

- no of cores

- RAM

- other?

APP works pretty well on a lot of specs, but it definitely likes to have as many cores as you can throw at it. 😉 Mabula for instance uses a Threadripper system. Intel seems to have a few new CPU's that are competing now with AMD, but at the moment I would still look at AMD.

I have 32 GB of memory, very convenient to both give APP 25 and still have plenty to do other stuff on the machine, so I would go for that.

Besides that, process on a fast M2 SSD, take 2, 1 for the system and 1 for processing of at least 1-2 TB.

GPU-wise it doesn't really matter at the moment as APP is not using the GPU fully yet (that will be in a future version).

Hi, as we're now up to 2.0.0 beta 26 - is there an update on the specs I should look for when getting a new PC? This thread mentioned (almost 2 years ago) that APP doesn't really use GPU - will that remain the same in the next few years? I currently use an old gaming PC but I think it weighs more than my mount! And even with 2 graphics cards it works pretty slowly.

I am on a 2 month trip, so it was too heavy to bring with me - hence I can't process any images until I get home, which is a real drawback that I want to avoid in the future.

Hi Mark @mfc,

We will start using the GPU as promised for analytical calculations for sure, currently a good videocard definitely helps with the hardware accelerated OpenGL image viewer 😉
