Hi mates @mabula-admin  and @vincent-mod

Neutralized background in tool 5) is usually checked by default.

Annotazione 2020 03 25 143459

Even if i usually do a complete and precise "remove light pollution", that includes remove background, do i have to leave it checked or unchecked ((in 5) Normalize)?

Thanks

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

You can leave it checked, but calibrating the background later on (tools menu) is important as it might supress nebulosity a bit in the background if you don't do that.

Does bold red "it" refer to background calibration in 5) Normalize?

Is background normalization in tools menù already applied? Remove light pollution tool included background normalization, right?

To sum up:

What's your advice? @mabula-admin @vincent-mod

You're doing it right yes, IT meant "neutralize background" in the normalize tab, 5. Because that might (might) lower the amount of signal in the background a little bit, "calibrate background" later on is adviced to always do as well.

Thanks @vincent-mod.

So between all 3 background calibrations, i usually skip the 3rd one, because it is included in the 2nd one: right?

No, that is a different proces from removing the light pollution tool.

@vincent-mod

So i understand that is better to apply all 3 background calibrations in order, always.. right?

Adviced yes, though you might skip 1 if you have a lot of very faint nebulosity in the background and already very nice data from dark skies for instance.

@vincent-mod

Fot a better understanding: is Background Neutralisation (=WB for the sky based on all data) the same as Linear fitting in Pixinsight? And background Calibration would then be the BackroungNeutralization-process from Pixinsight (=WB of the sky based on selected parts of the data)?

Is it correct if I put it this way?

I must say I don't know the details of the PI Tools, but they are similar-ish processes indeed. Likely they do use different algorithms.
