I’ve just purchased APP, And I am really impressed with the images I see with OSC using the extract capabilities. The addition colours are great. I would like more blues in my images.

But when I see other people extracting 03, they seem to have way more data in their image than I do. Now I understand that 03 is normally much weaker than HA, But mine seems almost nonexistent. Any recommendations on how I can increase the signal? I’m doing three minute exposures right now, and the only other thing I’m not using consistently are flats.

Hi Kevin,

well, as you write, OIII is very often much weaker than Halpha. You can choose the right targets to start with. For example the Cirrus Complex, which has a certain amount of OIII. But even with targets with a higher amount of OIII you have to watch the moon, because it disturbs the OIII channel significantly. So the best way is, avoid the moon as much as possible for OIII (>50% of moon phase).

Simply increase your integration time also, if there is not enought signal to obtain proper OIII.

I switched from L-enhance to L-extreme because the enhance mixes OIII with hbeta, this does also have an effect on your OIII signal.

Clear skies,

Chris

Yes and 3 minutes on a narrowband isn't very long, so I would advise to go towards 10 minutes even.
