I am running a mosaic using 467 subframes. I know but I've done this before with 400 but not a mosaic. It has been 38 hours and it still says it's calculating the Distortion correction during registration it is 80% but has been at 80% for an entire day. I'm wondering if I should give up? When I look at the resource meet her at the only thing that seems to be happening is a little disk activity and not a lot resource monitor says it's running nothing's locked up everything's responding I'm just wondering what's going on if I should wait or bail?
It's on a Dell XPS 15 with 32GB of ram 20 of which are dedicated to Astro pixel processor and a terabyte SSD drive and it has used all 20GB and I assume it's working with the disc but it's not doing it very quickly at all if at all.
There are only two panels in the mosaic but I ran it on a small subset first to make sure it was going to work and it worked perfect
After 40 some hours I assumed it failed so I cancelled the registration. I think everything was still actually working because it just spun for a minute after I hit cancel and then just listed all of the star analyzed subs. I will try to run it again and see if it finishes in 24 hours if not I'm giving up
You should make stacks with fewer subs first, so divide the subs into 4 stacks, 2 per panel with each stack containing half of the data of 1 panel. Then combine those later into a mosaic. That way you won't run into these issues.
Thanks. 11% integrated now. But could you tell me how after I have my four little stacks how I integrate them together do I just add them as individual stacked subframes? Use no bias no flat and no dark and just integrate them?
Yes, those stacks should already be fully calibrated as you used the necessary calibrations files on the subs to create them. So you create your stacks, make them look as nice as possible (removal of light pollution, star color calibration) and then you save those results (still not stretched ofcourse). Then you load them as lights again, you set APP up to create a mosaic with them and it should work... 🙂 The resulting mosaic can then be tweaked as a whole again if necessary.
Again, thanks much!
