Hi,

I recently downloaded the newest version,  and now when I have my subs star analyzed, it won't let me sort by quality or star shape erc....the prior version was fine.

Any ideas?

Adam

Hi Adam,

I noticed this also. No sort order and also no graph.

@Mabula: Probably something broke?

Interesting, I have to get some deepsky data, but will report back if I see it as well. Thanks for the report!

I see the same behavior. Choosing a sort option from the context menu isn’t having any effect at all.

Hi, I frequently use the graphic analysis and it is a very fine thing! But I also could not sort anymore since I had updated to 1.074 and with that I can not use the graphic analysis the way I need it- I reinstalled the older 1.072 version and that is ok for sorting and graphics.

Talking about sorting and the graphics....it would be a very nice (and important) feature if the data could be sorted according to "frame number". Without this possibility it sometimes is very difficult to sort out the bad data, especially when I have several camera filters used sequentially. The primary sorting according to frame number cannot be restored again after I sorted on another parameter once. I think sorting by frame number is a usefull thing and hope it is not complicated to implement it.

Mabula whats going on with this problem  ?   This is a severe limitation, not a minor inconvenience,  and needs to be fixed ASAP.

I like to be able to manually delete files below a certain quality completely from my system and not rely on the software to include those bad files in any decision making that the software may make   (a good example is when I am running my dual imaging rig and I dither one of the cameras - the other camera sometimes ends up with duplicated stars and these arent detected as having bad quaility - just two lots of nice round stars !!    At the moment I have to manually do this in windows explorer.  Very time consuming.

Also I can not find any way to bulk delete the selected files when they arent sorted.  In most software or operating systems holding the Control key allows you to select individual files for deletion or copy / move. Attempting this in APP does not work - it wants to select a whole block, good and bad files.

Hi @singding, @annehouw, @vincent-mod,@ac4lt, @pete_xl & @kelvin-hennessy,

I am working to fix this issue now for the next release, please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in my response.

So to clarify,  the issue seems to be that after star analysis the sort function on star shape and quality is not working right?

But... after registration, it does work properly right?

Kind regards,

Mabula

I have fixed the issue for both the sorting and the analytical graph directly after star analysis for the star shape and quality metrics 😉

I will try to release the new release as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Mabula

Yes Mabula I can confirm that sorting works after registration but not before.  That would explain why sometimes I thought the sorting worked but more often than not it did not - I must have been doing some sorting after the registration stage.

The ability to sort immediately after the analysis stage will be a most welcome addition for bulk deletion of the very worst of the frames but I think the ability to delete only selected files (like you can in Adobe lightroom)  would also be a great time saver for manually picking out defective frames that have good quality  (e.g. satellite trails, clouds  or double sets of stars due to second camera dithering) - at the moment I use Eddie Trimarchi's FITS4WIN add-on for Windows Explorer to quickly weed out those  bad frames - it would be very handy to mark and delete them in APP.    When dealing with several hundred image frames eliminating the very bad ones is very time consuming and frustratingly tedious.

Maybe this is possible already but I dont know how to do it - any clues Mabula ?

Hi @kelvin-hennessy,

Yes, I have located the issue and it is now properly fixed for the next release 😉

I will try to make it easier to delete bad frames. I must point out however, that the quality metrics are usually enough info just to pick out those bad ones without any need for visual inspection. It has been years ago that I needed to visually inspect my frames, but this is most likely  😊 due to the use of an Avalon Linear mount where all frames are simply good with respect to tracking/guiding. I think that especially frames with bad guiding need better detection, right? Maybe in star analysis, I can add an option for extra detection of bad guiding so these frames will be marked possibly bad? Would that be helpfull you think?

Kindr regards,

Mabula

Thanks Mabula - being able to sort on quality after star analysis stage and then delete / remove the worst frames will be the biggest time saver.  There are certain parts of processing I still like to have manual control over.

How do the quality metrics handle the following very common occurences

1 - Cloud partly obscuring the frame, but the star quality is otherwise excellent.

2 - Aircraft or satellite trails

I live under a busy flight path, and in particular planes love flying through the Orion region and Milky Way core when its overhead.

And of course satellites are going to be a huge problem for us all going forward and software purchase decisions for new users may well be determined by which software can best handle Elon Musk or Amazons proposed satellite networks.

As I may have mentioned previously I currently use Eddie Trimarchi's FITS4WIN2 extremely fast explorer plugin for quickly eliminating the worst frames with satellites / planes / clouds - I've yet to find a faster way of quickly looking through a batch of images with a mild stretch applied  (a bit painful with 200 plus images though !!)

I think better bad guiding detection might be of benefit especially for those users who have lightweight mounts  such as the Star Adventurer which I still regularly use alongside my big EQ6-R.  Even once I finish my observatory I will still run the star adventurer on a tripod beside it.

From a sales point of view I think this is a large group of customers you need to be catering for - the Star Adventurer / iOptron / Vixen Polarie users who, like me, may one day upgrade to newer, bigger mounts.   Once they get sick of DSS / Photoshop for their stacking and basic processing they are going to be looking at the internet forums for what software to upgrade to that makes life easy for them and takes care of their guiding mistakes efficiently.   For me it was the ease of use and short learning curve relative to PI that attracted me to APP and I am very happy I made that decision.

I'm sure there are a lot of time-poor astrophotographers out there like me that appreciate the effort you have gone to in making this such easy software to use.

@safinsd You can sort by right clicking the file list and selecting the column to sort on.

You have to sort after normalization not just after star analysis: I do it all the time and it always works.

Ah, thanks so much to both of you. I don't know how I screwed that up. I'll be doing the analysis and sorting after both star analysis and normalization from now on.
