Hi,

APP crashes during the star analysis procedure. If I remove the Flats and run everything else it doesn't crash. Ive taken brand new flats and tried again a couple of times and again it crashes. Take the flats out again and it doesn't. Any ideas please as its driving me mad?

Im using 22 lights, 10 flats, 10 bias and 5 darks. Ive also varied the amount of flats Ive used and tried different combinations of them.

It was very bright last night but I cant see why the flats are causing a crash.

Thanks for your help.

cheers

Richie

Its actually crashing in different areas of the process. I increased the star analysis quite a bit and it got through it but at integration stage it crashed again?

Can you explain what you mean with "crash"? Do you get an error message? If yes, can you post it here? Can you reproduce it and, if yes, can you tell how to?

Hi,

I don't get an error message. It just closes. It seem to happen at different stages. I ran the process through Deep Sky Stacker and it worked, although I don't like DSS as it doesn't give me the results I like. Would it help if I sent the file with the frames in?

regards

Richie

That is strange. Would it be possible for you to upload a number of frames that is causing this crash to our server? Login and password: appuser

Please create a directory named "RichardBlackshaw-FlatsCauseCrash" and upload in there.

Thanks!

Hi Vincent,

Ive uploaded them all as there weren't that many. The night was cut short but it would have been a bigger task to solve if I had been at it a few hours.

They should be in the file now. Thanks.

Richie

I too had some issues with program crashing  (would just close down) during the final integration.  Real pain to wake up and find several hours of work gone.   I have 16 Gb of ram in my computer.  I had the APP set to use 4 Gb, after I increased it to 8 Gb it would no longer crash.  I have no clue exactly where in the process things were, other than the data file left behind.  Just glad I can set things up before I go to bed and wake of to a completed run.

Hi Vincent, did you manage to have a look at the files?

Hi Richard,

My sincere apologies, my week was very busy and this one slipped through. I'll download the frames shortly and will have a look.

Ok, so I processed your data, flats included and I didn't have a crash with standard settings for everything. Which leads me to ask you, what version of APP did you use and on what system? I used Linux and assigned 12GB to APP 1.079.

One little point of advice; you need to take flats with an exposure time of around a second, you would need to adjust the brightness of the flat source to account for that.

Hi,

Thanks for coming back to me.

Im using Version 1.077 on Windows 10. I usually take my flats so the histogram hits the middle mark and its never around 1 second and its always been ok?

If it's ok then it might not be an issue, it's more of a general rule and it ensures the signal isn't influenced by some artefacts that can occur, depending on what is used as a light source or camera.

I'd advice to upgrade APP to 1.079 at least, many bugs have been fixed in between these versions.
