Hello

We finished the processing of a very long project we had with our telescope installed in remote in Chile :

CIEL AUSTRAL team (JC Cannone, Nicolas Outters, Didier Chaplain, Philippe Bernhard, Laurent Bourgon), at Obstech (Observatorio El Sauce in Chile) presents you the result of 2 years of work :

4x4 mosaic of Large Magellan Cloud and 2x2 mosaic of Small Magellan Cloud in RGB and SHO

Scaled previews

Magellan.jpg

Large Magellan :

1060 Hrs of Frame (world record) : The Large Magellanic Cloud, Mosaic of 16 plans (4x4) , SHO & RGB versions, done with TEC160 with Moravian CCD camera G4-16000 on Paramount MX+ in Obstech - Observatorio El Sauce in Chile, record during 2 x 5 months between Oct 2017 & Feb 2019

Full (14000 x 14000 pixels, 80 Mb) & info : http://www.cielaustr...rie/photo95.htm

Small Magellan :

305 Hrs of Frame : The Small Magellanic Cloud, Mosaic of 4 plans (2x2), SHO and RGB versions, done with TEC160 with Moravian CCD camera G4-16000 on Paramount MX+ in Obstech - Observatorio El Sauce in Chile

full (7600 x 7600 pixels) & info : http://www.cielaustr...rie/photo96.htm

All these images have been processed with PixInsight, Astro Pixel Processor, Photoshop.

PS : APP was really the best to align each stacked preprocessed field which was fast even for 64 images (16 fields of RGB (already combined R+G+B) + S2 + Ha + O3. Assembly was not good because of uncorrected gradient or bad LNC correction.  In fact, this mosaic would have been impossible to assemble without APP.

I got JAVA errors when assembling (I didn't take time to study) but it seems APP looks for master when normalize processus and my image are fully preprocessed. So I stopped to alignment. When I align only 1 field (for exemple Ha), it works without errors.  Maybe this is the combinaison of RGB and monochrome images ?

Anyway, many thanks to Mabula !

Cheers

Philippe Bernhard (for Ciel Austral Team)

Hi,

totally unbelievable! Congratulations. Much better and much more interesting than that picture, that was all over the news yesterday. I am already checking where and how I could have this printed out.

Regards

Stefan
